What Your Fee Buys

A fee only means something once you know what it pays for. Here I go through our four Invisalign fees item by item, including the clinical time a price list doesn't show, how paying works at Comely Bank, and the costs that sit outside the fee.

The short answer

How Much Is Invisalign in Edinburgh, and What Does Comely Bank Dental Include?

Invisalign at our Comely Bank practice in Edinburgh is one of four fixed fees: £3,250 for Lite, £3,750 for Moderate, £4,250 for Comprehensive and £4,750 for Comprehensive Plus. Each one takes in iTero scans and X-rays, all aligners and refinements, Vivera retainers, home whitening and a visit to the hygienist; bought separately, those last three would come to £1,090. Your package is set at a free consultation and fixed in a written plan. We don't offer finance, so that plan gives you the whole cost before you start.

Which of the Four Fees Will Be Yours?

Invisalign here is priced as four fixed packages, and the scan at your consultation decides which one applies:

Package Fee
Invisalign Lite £3,250
Invisalign Moderate £3,750
Invisalign Comprehensive £4,250
Invisalign Comprehensive Plus £4,750

Moving up a package means more tooth movement to plan, and more aligners to make. What the fee contains stays the same at every level, so Lite never means going without retainers or refinements.

At the free consultation, Dr Miranda Paterson or I will check your teeth, gums and bite, take an iTero scan and show you a simulation of the planned movement. You then have the package and fee in writing to take away. Booking needs a £40 deposit, which you get back within 7 days of attending.

What Would the Extras Cost on Their Own?

Three things in every package also appear separately on our fee list, so their value is easy to check:

  • Vivera retainers: £550
  • Professional home whitening: £450
  • A 30-minute hygiene visit: £90

That adds up to £1,090. Around those items sit the parts with no separate price tag: X-rays, iTero scans at the start and again for any refinements, every aligner in your package, and the refinements themselves, the extra aligners some teeth need to finish their movement. All of it is listed in your written plan, and the figure on that plan is the figure you pay.

What Else Is the Fee Paying For?

A good part of an Invisalign fee is time with a dentist rather than plastic. Before anything moves, your teeth and gums are checked so we know treatment is safe to start. Where a tooth needs more grip, small tooth-coloured attachments are bonded on. Then, over a course that usually runs 6 to 18 months, you come in every 6 to 8 weeks so we can see how the teeth are tracking and give you your next sets.

That supervision is the main thing missing from aligners ordered online, which can look cheaper at the outset. The two routes are compared properly in Invisalign with a dentist or at-home aligners?

Experience sits behind it as well. Align Technology has placed the practice at Diamond Apex, its highest provider tier, in each year from 2022 to 2026. The ranking counts patients treated, and at that level it means being among the busiest 1% of providers in Europe. It speaks to volume rather than to any qualification.

How Do I Pay Without Finance?

There's no patient finance or monthly payment scheme at Comely Bank Dental. The trade-off is a fee you can plan around: it's written into your treatment plan before the first aligner is made, and it doesn't change afterwards.

Routine care works differently. A dental plan covers examinations, X-rays and hygiene visits for £24.10 or £40.16 a month, and members get 10% off most private treatment. Whether that reduction extends to Invisalign is confirmed in your written plan, so you'll know before you commit.

What Sits Outside the Fee?

A few costs fall outside the Invisalign fee, and your written plan names any that apply to you.

  • Getting teeth and gums ready. Active gum disease or decay is treated before aligners go in, often starting with our hygiene team. Gum treatment is priced per stage, at £167 a stage.
  • Replacement retainers. If yours are lost or broken later, new Vivera retainers are £550, and a single Essix retainer for one arch is £170.
  • Cosmetic finishing. Any bonding or veneers you choose after straightening are planned and priced on their own.

Wearing your retainers as advised is what protects the money you've spent. Our retainer guide explains how.

Questions

How many appointments does Invisalign involve?–
After the free consultation, expect a visit roughly every 6 to 8 weeks for the length of treatment, which usually runs 6 to 18 months. You're given several sets of aligners at a time and change them at home.
Do I lose the booking deposit if I can't make the consultation?+
