Second Opinions, Edinburgh: Not Sure About a Plan, Quote or Past Work?

Second opinions at Comely Bank Dental cost nothing. Come with the plan, the quote, your X-rays or simply your teeth, and a dentist will give you an honest view of what they'd do, the cost, and whether anything needs doing at all.

There's no charge; we take a £40 deposit and return it within 7 days of your visit. If a CT scan is needed to answer your question, it costs £160. You're under no obligation and won't be pushed to change dentist.

What People Bring Us

Nearly every request we see is one of these.

A Treatment Plan or Quote

A plan from another practice for implants, veneers, Invisalign or full-arch treatment, and whether it's the right treatment at a fair price.

Turned Down for Implants

Too little bone, gum disease, diabetes or age. Several of these can be worked around, and a scan on our own CT scanner shows what's actually there.

Treatment Abroad

Crowns, veneers or implants placed overseas that hurt, have come loose or aren't what you were promised. We look at what you have and what can be saved.

Work That Hasn't Settled

A crown that has never felt comfortable, bonding that chips again and again, a sore implant. It may be a quick fix, or it may need a longer discussion.

A Diagnosis to Check

You've been advised to have a root canal, an extraction or gum surgery, and want certainty before agreeing.

Cosmetic Plans

You asked about veneers and wonder if bonding, whitening or Invisalign could do the job while involving less of your natural tooth.

Worth Bringing

Nothing here is required, but each item helps us give you a clear answer.

Your written plan or quote, so the comparison is a fair one
X-rays, scans or photos you have; you have a right to copies, and most practices send them when asked
Which implant system was used, where implants are part of it
Records from treatment overseas, with the clinic's name and details of what was fitted
Details of any medicines you take
A written note of your questions

What Happens

1

A Conversation

We hear what you've been told, what's worrying you, and the outcome you're hoping for.

2

An Examination

We check your teeth, gums and bite, take photos and any X-rays needed, and add a CT scan (£160) when the question concerns implants or bone.

3

A Straight Answer

We tell you if we agree with the plan, what we'd change and why, and our fee. If the existing plan is a good one, you'll hear that from us.

4

A Written Plan, If You Want One

You take home the options, each one's fee and the timescale. You're under no obligation, and nobody will ask you to decide that day.

How We Give It

An opinion is worth having only if it's honest, so we hold ourselves to a few rules. We never run down another dentist's work to gain a patient; we describe what we see and what we would do. If returning to the practice that began your treatment is the best course, we'll tell you. If leaving things alone for now is best, we'll tell you that as well.

If you do need treatment, the dentist giving the opinion is the one who would carry it out: Dr Davinder Kalsi for implants, oral surgery and veneers, Dr Jonathan Wardell for Invisalign, and our dentists for bonding and routine care. All our fees appear on our price list, so you can set them against any quote.
