How We Work: Fees, Deposits and Cancellations

At Comely Bank Dental, nothing should come as a surprise. Fees are in writing before treatment, our price list is public, consultations are free with a small refundable deposit, and we ask for 48 hours' notice to move an appointment.

Prices last checked October 2026. If something here is unclear, phone 0131 332 3971 and we'll explain.

Fees, in Writing

Your fee is agreed before any work begins.

Our full price list is online, and what it shows is exactly what you pay
Each course of treatment starts with a written plan setting out what we recommend, the alternatives, and the fee for every part
Once you've agreed the fee in your plan, it stays fixed. Should anything unexpected come up during treatment, we pause and discuss it with you first
A "from" fee applies to a straightforward case; your written plan swaps it for the exact figure in your case
Members of our dental plans get 10% off most private treatment, though not extensive cosmetic treatment, implants or orthodontics

Deposits

Implant, Invisalign, bonding, veneer and smile makeover consultations cost nothing. The deposit secures the appointment; it isn't income for us.

Booking a free consultation takes a £40 deposit, returned within 7 days after you attend
Facial aesthetics consultations are also free, with a £50 deposit returned on the same terms
We keep the deposit only if you miss the appointment. A short-notice cancellation is still refunded, but do let us know so someone else can have the time
You can take your written plan and fixed fee away with you. You're under no obligation to proceed, and nobody will press you to decide on the day
A second opinion is handled like any other consultation, even when the treatment was planned or begun at another practice

Cancellations

A slot freed at the last minute is hard to pass on to another patient, so we ask you to warn us.

To cancel or rearrange, let us know at least 48 hours ahead by phone, WhatsApp or through the patient portal
Miss a free consultation and we keep the deposit; cancel late and you still get it back
Running late? Call us. If there's still time we'll see you; if not, we'll find you a new appointment
Should we need to move your appointment, you'll hear from us as early as possible, with the first alternative that works for you
Reminders come by text, so please make sure we have your current number

Emergency Care

If you're in pain, we aim to see you that day, Monday to Friday, whether or not you're registered here.

Emergency appointments cost £75 for registered patients and £99 for anyone else; dental plan members pay nothing
Every weekday we hold back same-day slots for anyone in pain; ring 0131 332 3971 as soon as we open, or book online
When we're closed (we open 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday), phone NHS 24 on 111
Head to A&E for swelling that affects your breathing, swallowing or eye, for bleeding that won't stop, or after a serious facial injury

NHS for Children

Children of our dental plan members are seen on the NHS; adults are private patients.

In Scotland, children pay nothing for NHS dental examinations or treatment
Children whose parent or guardian is on one of our dental plans can register: phone 0131 332 3971 or request a call back, and we'll arrange their first examination
We welcome children from their first tooth, take things at their speed and explain each step in words they understand
NHS care isn't offered for adults, so you'll find every adult fee on our published price list

Plans and Paying

One monthly fee for routine care, with anything else agreed in writing beforehand.

Plan A, at £24.10 a month, includes two examinations, two small X-rays and two Airflow hygiene visits each year
Plan B, at £40.16 a month, is the same but with four hygiene visits annually, suiting gum health, implants or more frequent care
Each plan also gives you priority appointments, emergency appointments at no charge and dental emergency cover worldwide
Bigger treatment is costed part by part in your written plan, and you agree those fees before work begins

Commitments we put in writing.

Every MegaGen AnyRidge implant we place comes with a 5-year guarantee for non-smokers who attend hygiene visits every 3 months, with full terms set out in your consent form
We publish before-and-after photographs only with your written consent, and we never retouch them

Privacy, Complaints

Practical details.

Ahead of your first visit we send your medical history and consent forms by secure link, so you can complete them in advance
Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal data. Only the clinical team sees photographs you send for an online opinion
Should something go wrong, our complaints procedure sets out who to contact and how fast we'll reply. Healthcare Improvement Scotland regulates private dental care in Scotland, and concerns about children's NHS care can also be raised with NHS Lothian or the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman
Tell us about any access needs before you come, so we can plan your visit together. There's more on our accessibility page
All our clinicians hold General Dental Council registration, and their numbers are listed on our team page
