What Invisalign Costs
Invisalign fees can look very different from one practice to the next, and the headline figure rarely tells you the whole story. I'll explain what drives the cost, what our fee includes, and the questions worth asking wherever you go for treatment.
How Much Does Invisalign Cost in Edinburgh?
At Comely Bank Dental in Edinburgh, Invisalign starts from £3,000, with the final fee depending on how complex your case is and how many aligners you need. Refinements and Vivera retainers are included, and the Invisalign consultation is free. Your fee is confirmed in a written treatment plan before you start.
How Much Does Invisalign Cost at Comely Bank Dental?
Invisalign at our practice starts from £3,000. That starting fee applies to simpler cases, such as mild crowding or small gaps at the front, where fewer aligners are needed. More involved cases cost more, and your exact fee is set out in a written treatment plan before you commit to anything.
Our fee includes refinements (extra aligners if your teeth need fine-tuning towards the end) and Vivera retainers to hold your teeth in place afterwards. Both are common sources of extra cost elsewhere, so they're worth checking for when you compare quotes.
The consultation is free. It's the only way to give you an accurate figure, because the cost depends on what your teeth need to do.
What Changes the Price of Invisalign?
Three things make the biggest difference.
How complex your case is. Straightening a few slightly crowded front teeth is a very different job from correcting a deep bite, an open bite, or teeth that are rotated and crowded at the back. More complex movements take longer to plan, need more dental examinations and often more attachments, the small tooth-coloured bumps that help the aligners grip.
How many aligners you need. Each aligner moves your teeth a small, planned amount. A simple case might need a modest number of aligners over a few months, while a comprehensive case can need many more over a year or longer.
Refinements. Teeth don't always follow the plan exactly. Refinements are a fresh scan and a new set of aligners to finish the job. Most people need at least one, and at our practice they're included.
Other things, such as gentle polishing between teeth to make space or treating gum problems first, are explained in your plan if they apply to you.

What's Included in Our Invisalign Fee?
When you have Invisalign with us, your fee covers:
- your free consultation and initial planning
- digital scans of your teeth with our iTero scanner, at the start and for any refinements, so you don't need putty impressions
- your digital treatment plan, which shows how your teeth are planned to move, step by step
- all your aligners, including refinements
- Vivera retainers at the end of treatment
Your written plan lists everything included in your fee, so you can see at a glance what is and isn't covered.
Retainers matter more than people expect. Without them, teeth tend to drift back towards where they started, so retention is part of treatment, not an optional extra.
What Does Invisalign Cost After Treatment Ends?
Once your teeth are straight, the ongoing costs are modest, but they're worth knowing about from the start.
Retainers. Your first Vivera retainers are included. They're made from a strong material and, looked after well, they last a good while. If one is lost or broken, replacement Vivera retainers are £550.
Dental examinations. We check your retainers and the position of your teeth at your routine examinations, so any small drift is caught early.
Keeping teeth healthy. Straight teeth are easier to clean, but they still need regular hygiene visits. Our dental plan spreads routine care costs across the year, and members save 10% on most private treatment.
What Do Other Practices in Edinburgh Charge?
Among Edinburgh practices that publish their fees (October 2026), the lowest advertised price for Invisalign ranges from about £2,000 to £4,300. The middle half of practices sit between roughly £2,500 and £3,900.
These are "from" prices, so they usually describe the simplest cases. They also include different things. Some cover retainers and refinements, and some don't. Not every practice publishes its fees, so the figures give a sense of the market rather than a full survey.
A useful way to compare is to ask each practice for the total cost of your treatment from start to finish, including retainers, and to get it in writing.
What Should You Check Before Accepting a Quote?
A lower headline price isn't always a lower total. Before you choose, ask:
- Are refinements included? If not, ask how much each round costs and how many you're likely to need.
- Are retainers included? Retainers are essential, and some quotes leave them out.
- Who will see me during treatment? Regular in-person dental examinations let a dentist spot problems early.
- What happens if my teeth don't track? Find out whether extra aligners or extra visits are charged.
- Is a full examination part of the process? Teeth and gums should be healthy before aligners go in.
Home aligner companies that rely mainly on remote monitoring can look cheaper at first. The difference is usually in supervision: who checks your teeth and gums before you start, who sees you during treatment, and what happens if things don't go to plan. Those are fair questions to ask whichever route you're considering.
Does Diamond Apex Status Make a Difference?
We've been an Invisalign Diamond Apex Provider every year from 2022 to 2026, which puts us in the top 1% of Invisalign providers in Europe. The status reflects the number of patients treated with Invisalign. It isn't a qualification, and it doesn't guarantee any particular result.
What that experience does bring is familiarity. Over many cases, you learn which tooth movements aligners handle well and which need extra planning, how to adjust a digital plan so it suits the person rather than the software, and when someone would be better served by a different approach.
That last point matters. Invisalign isn't right for everyone, and part of experience is recognising when to say so.
Who Is Invisalign Not Right For?
Invisalign works for a wide range of adults and teenagers, but it may not suit you if:
- you have active gum disease or decay, which need treating first (a visit to our hygiene team is often the starting point)
- you aren't able to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, which is what treatment depends on
- your bite problem is mainly caused by the position of your jaws rather than your teeth, which may need fixed braces, jaw surgery or a referral to an orthodontist
- you have several missing teeth, in which case straightening may be part of a wider plan involving implants or bridges
If Invisalign isn't the right option, we'll explain why and talk through the alternatives. Our page on Invisalign covers the treatment itself in more detail.
What Happens at the Free Consultation?
Your free Invisalign consultation is at our practice in Comely Bank, a few minutes' walk from Stockbridge. I'll:
- ask what bothers you about your teeth and what you'd like to change
- check your teeth, gums and bite to make sure treatment is safe to start
- take a digital scan and photographs
- explain whether your case is simple or more involved, and roughly how long it may take
- give you a written plan with your fee and everything it includes
If you haven't had a dental examination recently, we may suggest an examination before treatment begins. You're welcome to take the plan away and think it over. Fees are agreed in writing before treatment starts, so there are no surprises later.

This guide is general information, not a diagnosis. A dentist needs to examine you to say what is right for your teeth.
